Michael Swaim and Abe Epperson met while working for the MQ[2], a satirical school newspaper at the University of California, San Diego. After graduating, they decided to pursue careers in entertainment, and founded the Those Aren't Muskets! comedy troupe. They began producing their own online video sketches on YouTube and their official website.[3] Their name comes from a quote from Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Hide and Q"[4]
The troupe garnered more widespread popularity after the release of their viral video "Internet Party", which was featured on the front page of Youtube and placed second in the inaugural FilmClick Online Film Festival.[5] Their sketch "The Hot Farts" also placed in the top ten for Youtube's second Sketchies contest.[6]
